Their most famous encounter in the Africa Cup of Nations occurred during the 1992 tournament final in Senegal. The two sides met again in the 2015 AFCON final held in Equatorial Guinea. Once more, the match required penalties to separate the two powerhouses after another exhausting 0-0 draw. Côte d’Ivoire emerged victorious again, winning 9-8 on penalties under the guidance of manager Hervé Renard.
