What drove the departure of Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler?

Eric Tinkler's departure from Asante Kotoko was driven by a mutual agreement following a comprehensive internal review of the team's strategic direction and sporting objectives after three months in charge.

The interim technical team assumed full control of training sessions starting October 1, 2026.

Eric Tinkler built a rugged reputation as a defensive midfielder long before stepping into high-profile coaching dugouts. Born in Roodepoort, South Africa, in July 1970, Tinkler kicked off his professional career with Wits University before seeking opportunities abroad.

His playing journey took a significant leap when he moved to Europe, featuring prominently for clubs like Vitória de Setúbal in Portugal and Cagliari in Italy. A Versatile Career Across Three Continents

Tinkler represented the South African national team, earning 45 international caps between 1994 and 2002. He was a member of the Bafana Bafana squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil in 1996, securing a 2-0 victory over Tunisia in the final.

After hanging up his boots, he transitioned directly into technical roles, starting as an assistant coach at Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates before taking charge of various top-tier clubs across the African continent.
